When you switch to love
And you set the clock
There’s nowhere you can stop
Paradox Obscur, Greece’s eminent duo of analogue alchemists Kriistal Ann and Toxic Razor, continues their odyssey into the heart of authentic synth-driven artistry with their latest single, Switch To Love. As always, computers are cast aside; it’s a pure communion between human spirit and hardware, yielding music that feels alive, present, and compellingly immediate.
Switch To Love resonates profoundly with Kriistal Ann’s vocals: clear, yearning, carrying echoes of distant, half-forgotten emotions. Her voice drifts elegantly atop Toxic Razor’s effervescent synth work. The lyrics delve into the emotional whirlwind of surrendering to love’s transformative power, depicting an intimate dance between desire and vulnerability. There’s a palpable sense of longing, accentuated by nocturnal imagery and physical closeness, which amplifies the intensity of connection while underscoring a certain unattainable mystery, capturing the profound depth of love and the allure of what lies just beyond perception.
Switch To Love arrives cloaked in a neo-noir film directed by Venezuelan filmmaker Mariangela Pluchino, whose vision blooms spectacularly on 16mm celluloid, captured through the discerning lens of Finnish cinematographer Ville Piippo.
At its core, the video trails a determined woman navigating labyrinthine city streets illuminated by daylight but cloaked in the shadows of intrigue. Her path intersects a circle of figures enacting the pantomime of an arcane ritual, their intentions as inscrutable as the rhythm underpinning the scene. This enigmatic congregation prompts unspoken questions: are they architects of her fate, or merely observers in the drama unfolding? Her steps ultimately bring her before a hypnotist, whose gaze locks her in a trance, casting both character and audience into uncertainty. Through carefully staged compositions and subtle movements, Pluchino evokes suspense reminiscent of classic noir cinema, delivering suspense with every carefully chosen shot.
