There are two bands called The Wake, and the one we are excited about today is the American gothic rock band from Columbus, Ohio. Formed in 1986 by vocalist Troy Payne and guitarist Richard Witherspoon.
Following up their first studio recording Procession, The Wake gained ground in the NYC Goth scene in 1990 with their 7 Inch single “Harlot” and its follow up “Sideshow”. This led to the band signing with Cleopatra Records in 1993 with the help of the city’s longest running Goth DJ, Patrick Cusack who had just started his tenure a year prior..
The Wake’s debut album Masked was soon released in October of 1993, and is considered by many as one of the definitive records of 90s Goth.
Collecting the 7 inch singles “Sideshow”, and “Harlot”, the album also included a reworked version early track “Locomotive Age”.

Now, Cleopatra Records has reissued the The Wake’s classic album Masked on a limited edition of 300 a purple vinyl.
