I imitate someone’s touch and by the way, I cared too much
German shoegazers Melting Palms are back with their carefree video for “Crimson Eye” a bright song brimming with the warmth and spirit of 1991 indie-rock daydreams, capturing a timeless sound that alludes to the best of Deerhunter, Wand, Sonic Youth, and Ride.
Shedding the weight and gloom of too much self-reflection, ‘Crimson Eye” is a hopeful tune that feels like a wake-up call from a dream. While the song is a wistful meditation of the friendships that come and go, old thought patterns and processes, and emotional dependence, it is also an exuberant moment of clarity to both cast off listlessness and anxiety, and to live for each moment and not let life pass you by.
Awash in reverb and 90s nostalgia, and novel guitar tunings and effects, “Crimson Eye” is effective in uniting both past and present to the point you either forget what year it is or you just don’t care.

“Crimson Eye” is featured on Melting Palms forthcoming sophomore LP Noise Between the Shades, the follow-up to their 2020 debut “Abyss”. Featuring the lineup of Mike Krumhorn, Teresa Köberle, Johann Wientjes, Lukas Schulz, and Tim Thiele the new album promises to broaden the band’s musical palette by expanding upon their trademark reverb-soaked dreamscapes with warmer and brighter cloud-kissed melodies that still explore dark themes about life, loss, personal growth, and evolution of subjective experiences.
“Noise Between the Shades” out August 26th on La Pochette Surprise Records.
