German Post-Punk heroes XTR Human Return in a Brutalo-Pop Daydream with “Hearst”

German post-punk heroes XTR Human have continued their departure from gloomier tones with the dreamy “Brutalo-Pop” infused singles that comprise the band’s forthcoming second studio LP Interior with their new video for “Hearst”.

The song is brimming with shimming sentimentality evoking the college rock indie and infused Brit-influenced alternative rock that marks The Cure’s Head on the Door as a logical starting point that wanders off into the idyllic sonics spaces of The Ocean Blue’s Cerulean reverie, with spiraling melodies swirling like that album’s eponymous ballerina.

About the song and video for “Hearst”, Johannes explains how the song is in reference to one of the most infamous cases of Stockholm Syndrome”:

“The song title is a reference to Patty Hearst, who became internationally known for events following her 1974 kidnapping by the left-wing terrorist Symbionese Liberation Army.

She was found 19 months after being abducted, by which time she was a fugitive wanted for serious crimes committed with members of the group.”

The video was shot at the old train rails of Stahnsdorf. It was called the “Friedhofsbahn”—a train that transported the dead bodies out of berlin to the new graveyards outside the city (from 1913 til 1961).

Watch the video for “Hearst”, Directed and Edited by Dominik Jureschko below:

“Hearst” is the fourth song heralding the release of Interior, which is out via Berlin label Blackjack Illuminist Records on May 29, 2020.
