Georgia Deathrock Band Tears for the Dying Debut Video for “Wouldn’t It Be Funny”

Deathrock outfit Tears for the Dying was formed in Athens, Georgia in 2003 by Adria Stembridge. The band, which blends ethereal vibes and visuals with raw, angry dark post-punk, conjures a sound that is both rich and diverse. Adria Stembridge helms the group with vocals and guitar along with J. Broughton; Pilot and Mycke Paine round out the sound respectively on bass and drums. With keen attention to atmosphere and ambiance, Tears for the Dying delivers a pallid take on deathrock, post-punk and dark punk.

The band’s back story is a complex tale of grace and overcoming multiple obstacles. Stembridge, who grew up trans and autistic in a small southeastern town, deeply felt the sting of bullies and religious trauma during her upbringing. At 19, she had her first epileptic seizure…and more would follow. These experiences led her to explore the dark underbelly of society, and its reflection in art.

Today Stembridge is proud to help fight against injustice, discrimination, and fascism as an out and proud queer woman.

The video for the track, directed by Blake Pipes, is a forest stroll into the world of the great unknown, a place of mystery and piles of writhing snakes. Let’s go.
