Le sel, le sable
Un nouveau rendez-vous
La fin d’une journée
J’ai tout oublié
Fragrance., the project of French electronic artist Matthieu Roche, who has been making a transatlantic name for himself as a collaborator and composer. The outfit’s latest video release and single, The Cure, spans an ocean as he joins creative forces with New York-based singer and photographer, Lulannie (née Jennifer Medina).
The allure of Fragrance. is compelling, driven by hypnotic, danceable contemplation. “The Cure” is part of Fragrance.‘s forthcoming sophomore LP, expected later in the year via French label Synth Religion. “The Cure” was co-produced with Sophia Hamadi (Opale), continuing the band’s theme of deep introspection, hope, and optimism.
The accompanying video for the track, directed and edited by Jennifer Medina, is a stunning testament to both technology and the miracles of international collaboration. The film was shot remotely between the US (NYC) and France (Brittany and Paris), with camerawork by Juan Satizabal, Davide Maria, Suzy Helmer, and Matthieu Roche. We bear witness to Roche and Lulannie dancing simultaneously, isolated, across a psychedelic ocean; she on the rocky urban shores of NYC, he on a rural beach in France. It’s a touching homage to the collective consciousness of artists creating during the Covid era: together in mind, heart, and spirit, if not in three dimensions.
…Soon.
