Si il y a les lignes, il y a les marges
C’est plein et vide un choix dirigé
Electro-post-punk duo Dear Deer return with Les Deux Piliers, the first track from their forthcoming EP due October 2025, and it sways with a strange elegance—part pop detour, part philosophical riddle. After years of flirting with their native French lyrics, they now dive in fully, abandoning the safety of synthwave tropes for something slippier, sharper…and yes, more surreal.
There’s a sparkle here: gleaming keys, a chugging beat, effervescent vocals that float but never drift. Think late-70s ZE Records decadence: part disco detachment, part punk precision, with the pure emotional output of bands like Arcade Fire and Ultravox. It hums like a lost 45 from a club that only existed in your dreams.
Lyrically, Les Deux Piliers presses against the boundaries, both literal and imagined. Lines and margins, thoughts folding against thoughts, control colliding with collapse. The structure’s there, but it’s bending under the weight of meaning; a theatre full of props and no clear play.
The video, directed by the band, mirrors this dance between precision and possibility. Vast landscapes stretch out, endless and empty, cut against the fierce repetition of a pole dancer inside a darkened studio. Tina (Air Dance Studio Lille) moves like muscle memory turned ritual, her performance both hypnotic and human.
Beautifully filmed, sharply scored, and laced with paradox, Les Deux Piliers marks a bold step sideways for the band’s masterminds Clothilde Sourdeval and Frédéric Iovino: a foray into exciting new rhythms, strange light, and liminal space.
