Arrivé à la limite
D’un coeur grand ouvert
Un lit de roses
Qui n’arrivera pas à destination
Anton Steinbock, the Paris-based musician behind the succinctly titled solo project Anton, pulls us deeper into his starkly luminous world on his latest track, “L’Autre Destination,” taken from the upcoming 2025 release Glacier / Volcan (Icy Cold Records). The song arrives with the feel of a delayed midnight train, passengers stuck in quiet longing. Steinbock draws from the gloomy elegance of Joy Division and Asylum Party, merged effortlessly with the melancholic chill of Lebanon Hanover, crafting synth-driven arrangements defined by their existential unease.
L’Autre Destination surges ahead on currents of somber bass synth, driven by drum patterns both relentless and distant, guitar lines glinting like distant signals through fog. The track embodies suspended motion—moments caught between desire and fulfillment, letters of love looping endlessly through abandoned corridors. Anton conjures an unresolved journey, a suitcase orbiting unclaimed at some deserted baggage carousel.
His lyrics illuminate an emotional frontier, openness met only with absence. Roses, symbols of hope and tenderness, fail to reach their intended destination, encapsulating the bitter paradox of heartfelt offerings left suspended in space. The singer’s pleas echo with vulnerability, questions left hanging in the chill air, longing for a gaze or a touch that remains elusive.
Anton’s self-directed video complements the musical terrain, presenting fragmented visions through a VHS prism. We traverse isolated terrains, scenes shimmering and dissolving like memories slipping between past and present, lost in temporal uncertainty. It’s solitude made manifest, emotional territories charted yet remaining unreachable, reinforcing the track’s atmosphere of estrangement.
