Beneath the onyx blanket of the night, a luminary graces the celestial tapestry: the moon. Emerging from the dusky shadows, Denuit – a sublime French gothic ensemble – assumes this role, acting as the radiant moonbeam in our all-encompassing gloom. Though their melodies articulate the existential tribulations of being and the complexities intrinsic to humanity, they concurrently manage to weave an undercurrent of optimism into their lyrical tapestry. Hence, the stage transmutes into a pan-universal sanctuary; a place where every soul may lay their burdens to rest, lost in the transcendent music of Denuit.
“Our music is a testimony to pain, but it becomes deliverance,” says the band. “We want to give our audience a taste of freedom. Denuit is above all a love story, a love that we want to give, transmit and share together.”
In the fragile moments of dawn’s break, Denuit came into being, drawn forth from the hearts of Ivi Topp and Lis Araignée. They are denizens of the dark, poets of the electronic pulse, their tunes dancing precariously between day’s illumination and night’s obscurity. Over the cryptic melodies of Ivi’s spectral synths, Lis’s voice echoes in frosty, otherworldly tones, akin to the haunting call of the banshee in yonder mist.
In the heart of their unique musical alchemy, a potent concoction they’ve named “Night-Wave” is conceived. This magic mixture of sound is a blend of shadows from the likes of Siouxsie, Zola Jesus, and Kompromat – the flavors merging in a sublime, ghostly medley.
Denuit, inspired by the starkly beautiful cyberpunk aesthetics and the melancholy verses of Edgar Allan Poe, is a duo that pulsates with raw power. Their music is drawn directly from their souls, serving as a poignant ballad to the intricacies of love, the wonder of life itself – a true ode to the ceaseless rhythm of the human experience.
“Your Pain is a song that I feel deeply connected to,” Ivi says. “I lost my father in April, this song is for him. He was ill for almost a year, sometimes he felt a bit better, some days not. Your Pain is about his pain, my pain, and pain itself. We do what we can to avoid feelings that we paint as negative, like grief and pain, but I find that letting the pain run through my veins and experiencing it fully helps me to understand it better and enjoy every moment and smile I get on the way to the other side of it. The synth melody on this song expresses my deepest feelings far better than the words I’m sharing with you here.”
In a cinematic masterpiece envisioned by Nicolas Cesar, we plunge headfirst into the enigmatic margins of existence. Infused with a vibrant bouquet of metaphors, this film unfurls a rich tapestry of cosmic mysteries. The visuals echo in our consciousness, their haunting quality a soft brushstroke of the macabre upon an austere panorama of nature. We find ourselves in the throes of a primal ceremony, sacred in its purpose. The mortal form, an ephemeral whisper against the timeline of the universe, dissolves gracefully into the celestial loom. Within the reel unfolds a tale of love, not just singular, but multifaceted, layered like an ancient, weathered palimpsest.
