Fire and Blood — Berlin-Based Ukrainian Darkwave Artist Routine Debuts Harrowing Video for “Get Off Me”

U kissed me
U loved me
U broke me
U killed me

What is our routine, if not a series of trials?  Ukrainian-born and Berlin-based electronic producer and guitarist Anton Koba, aka Routine, mixes modern digital and rough old-school sounds to create soundtracks for existential dread.

The bloody, sadistic, and outright vicious vision conjured for Get Off Me is a sick illustration of the violent turmoil of a broken relationship, expressing a tumultuous mix of love and hate. The refrain of the minimalistic and aggressive lyrics that overlay the propulsive and shadowy beat emphasize the desire to be forgotten and left behind, urging the other person to move on and let go of the past.

In the Andrii Kaplia-directed video, passion is taken to the extreme by self-immolation, which serves as a metaphor for inner agony and aggressive outbursts. It speaks of betrayal, pain, and a plea for forgiveness. This harrowing short film is somewhere between the Crime Noir and Grindhouse of Tarantino, and the kind of unsettling ultraviolence would make directors like Gaspar Noe and Michael Haneke wince or, at the very least, cock an eyebrow.

Berlin fashion model Ana Taku stars as the psychopathic paramour, gleefully assailing the film’s protagonist with a variety of brutal implements before nonchalantly bathing in presumably his blood. The sinister spectacle serves as a grim exploration of the darker corners of human nature and is a metaphor that is far from subtle.

**Trigger warning: this video is extremely graphic.
