Fight it Out — Darkwave Duo Vioflesh Drop a Dangerous Beat in their Video for “With You”

In the dim light of alleyways, where gentlemanly conduct takes its leave and the rules of civility are forgotten, men and women throw punches as easily as they might cast aspersions in polite society. The air is thick with anticipation, sweat, blood, and desperation. It’s enough to make one clutch their pearls or their whiskey, whichever is closer. The fighters are desperate souls, often trying to earn a meager living or repay a debt. Others fight for honour, ego, or simply the thrill. It’s a ballet of sorts; albeit a brutal one, where the dancers float like butterflies and exchange bee stings instead of pleasantries. The audience gather, eyes wide, hearts pounding, placing wagers. Some cheer, some jeer, but all are riveted until the dust settles. The streets return to their normal, sombre state, waiting in silence for the next illicit rendezvous.

They told us to ‘never talk about Fight Club,’ but the video for “With You” is fair game, as darkwave duo Vioflesh and director Sergio Cinghiale weave a tale of clandestine rendezvous and jailbirds beating their wings in an unsavoury battle. These shifty souls, alongside souped-up autos and wagers, find themselves beating the living daylights out of each other in a setting reminiscent of any city’s forgotten outskirts, where the compass points collide. This is a dangerous world, forever dancing between glaring lights and lurking perils.

Watch below and place your bets:

Vio and Flesh birthed Vioflesh in 2017, vibrantly fusing synthesizer-driven sounds, rhythmic boxes, and electric beats. “With You” is haunted by wails and cavernous echoes, as the icy synths jab like an ill-timed retort, while the bass grumbles its discontent. One is swept into a dizzying dance, punctuated by occasional bursts that remind one of a bee’s sting, or a series of uppercuts to the jaw.

Vioflesh’s electrifying presence has been felt on Chile’s most prestigious stages, including the notable Feria Pulsar in 2018. They even had the honour of opening for Hocico at the iconic Blondie nightclub in Santiago de Chile. 2020 saw them dropping “La Señal”, a track enriched with the haunting vocals of Claudio Valenzuela from Lucybell.

With You” is off the album Feeling You Don’t See, out now via Mold Records.
