In a world where the familiar is just a whisper in the wind, and the tides of change are relentless, N∆EON TE∆RDROPS rises from the depths of an alternate universe. Their melancholy synthpop intricately dances with a sense of urgency, belying its ephemeral nature.
The new single, “OUTBOUND,” exudes a more optimistic mood than previous works while remaining grounded in the project’s established nouveau synthpop technique. Encouraging listeners to “leave it all behind and start another life,” the song captivates with its effervescent synths and introspective lyrics, skillfully blending these elements to create a truly immersive experience. It swirls with late 80s and early 90s dreampop, darkwave, and synthpop influences, creating a cosmic spiral reminiscent of Depeche Mode and David Bowie were to collaborate after listening to endless hours of Chapterhouse and My Bloody Valentine. This captivating melange of intangible atmosphere invites listeners to explore a world beyond their mundane existence as the allure of the unknown calls out.
Within this ethereal dimension, musician Per Martinsen’s otherworldly alter ego reveals a rich tapestry of sound that resonates profoundly within the soul. The true essence of music lies not in the quantum of notes themselves, but in the boundless spaces interwoven between them, where raw human emotion is exposed and drifts into the vastness of infinity.
Listen to “OUTBOUND” below:
In 1987, Per Martinsen left his wintry hometown of Tromsø, Norway, without a definite destination in mind – but serendipity was on his side when he ended up occupying a squat in Hackney, East London. During his stay in Hackney, he was introduced to the early sounds of Chicago house and Detroit techno. This experience catalyzed his extensive three-decade career as an electronic dance music producer. Martinsen has since produced many records and remixes under his MENTAL OVERDRIVE alias and has also been involved in various projects and collaborations, such as ILLUMINATION/CHILLUMINATI and FROST.
Martinsen is the author of the intriguing Pyramids On The Moon, a fictional “multi-dimensional autobiography” where he explores three alternative timelines and/or parallel universe versions of his own life, and where each of his three branching interdimensional personas create music under different artist aliases. The book was written as part of an artistic Ph.D. project over the past three years at the Arctic University of Norway.
NAEON TEARDROPS’ latest Single, “OUTBOUND,” will also be released in two remix versions on May 12th. One of the mixes is done by fellow Norwegian dance music maestro LINDSTRØM, and the other is from Tromsø’s own KOHIB.
A full album entitled TESTIMONY is in the final stages of its completion and will be released later this year.
