Philadelphia has always been a haven for some of the scene’s more salacious, under-the-radar projects. In 1997, The Model formed, tapping into the undersung electronics scene that was just churning underneath the surface, ready to explode just a few short years later. Combining the dark electronic experimentation of The Human League with the swagger of vocalists such as Michael Hutchence and Dave Gahan, the band gained momentum and released two albums, with mainstay Markie producing and playing with New York’s Class Actress . However, The Model never fully disappeared, with new singles appearing in more recent years. The latest, 2021’s “Little Dreams” was as addictive and masterful as anything that came before, and we’re honored to share the video of a remix of the track by Void Vision, who has been a champion of the minimal electronic scene since 2009.
Check the video out below:
Void Vision’s “Little Visions” mix transforms the track from its original four-on-the-floor club anthem into a much sleazier, late night affair, complete with slower, syrupy tempos and bending, throbbing synth bass. Void Vision’s infectious sense of melody and dark electronic sensibilities are a perfect compliment to The Model’s already sharp, powerful take on electro pop . The video itself is a collaboration experimental Brazilian digital artist Strangepeo, tapping into The Model’s ongoing drive to explore other realms of the technical landscape, including AI, virtual reality, and more. As such, the video is a feast for the senses – a surreal, futuristic, and colorful take on the imagined life of a 3D catwalk model.
This remix, as well as others, can be found on The Model’s Bandcamp page, alongside a reissue of 2008’s sophomore release Physical. Check out the full remix EP below:
