Editors Debut Video for “Kiss” from Forthcoming New Album “EBM”

Editors have unveiled their cinematic new single “Kiss,” the third offering from their forthcoming seventh studio album EBM, out September 23 via [PIAS].

The new album is the first Editors foray featuring new band member Benjamin John Power (Blanck Mass). With atmospheric disco synths, drum machines, and soaring falsetto vocals, singer Tom Smith describes the track as a “crying on the dancefloor banger.” At the same time, Benjamin John Power states that it “could almost be a Donna Summer song” if it wasn’t so heavy.

Accompanying “Kiss” is a gorgeous, surreal video. It’s an abstract take on the lyrics, featuring dancers Harry Ondrak-Wright and Rory Macleod, with choreography by Sophia Hurdley. The collaboration shows two men facing off in a parking garage, in a classic dance-fight sequence, then intertwining in a field. It is sensual, passionate, and beautifully directed by guitarist Justin Lockey and his brother James Lockey (Hand Held Cine Club).

“The idea of this video came out of a want to do something simple and abstract that didn’t read too deep into the lyrics or any kind of blow-by-blow literal take on the lyrics,” says Justin Lockey. “It was more about using the title to spark a theme to work on, using movement as the core medium. The idea I landed on would be to show the story of two souls constantly attracting and repelling each other, never quite fully coming together… until ultimately they succumb to being intertwined together for better or for worse.”

The forthcoming new album EBM takes its title from an acronym of Editors and Blanck Mass, but also refers to Electronic Body Music, which has hugely influenced Editors’ new material, building off sounds from classic bands like Nitzer Ebb, Front 242, and DAF.
