Dutch Post-Punk Duo Palais Ideal Speak a Harsh Truth in Their Video for “Results”

No-one wins if no-one loses
and the odds are seldom fair
Nobody made you a victim.
Nobody except yourself.

Dutch post-punk outfit Palais Ideal have unleashed their moody video for the track “Results”, a song off of their new album Negative Space.

Utiizing vintage synths, guitars, and equipment to conjure up an authentic early 80s sound, Palais Ideal is emotionally engaging, intellectually stimulating, and high energy. Their barking, brusque vocals are reminiscent of The Sisters of Mercy and Bauhaus; the driving guitars and catchy hook keep the listener anchored, vibing, and dancing. The track is a song of tough love: both a pep talk and a reality check – you’re ultimately responsible for your own chariot in this race of life, both in good times and bad. What path will you choose, and through what means?

The video, filmed by Nando Harmsen and edited by Richard van Kruysdijk, is an Expressionist take on the classic performance video, with wild camera angles and stark lighting.

As musicians and producers, Richard van Kruysdijk (bass, baritone guitar, backing vocals, synths, programming) and John Edwards (vocals, guitars, synths, programming) have worked on projects for independent and major labels and toured extensively. They have collaborated in their previous bands with members of Wire, Bauhaus, Tuxedomoon, Christian Death, The Legendary Pink Dots, Coil, Clan Of Xymox, and Swans.

The third album from Palais Ideal, Negative Space offers a collection of energetic, melodic, guitar-driven, song-oriented post-punk tracks strongly inspired by The Sound, Buzzcocks, Modern English, and Comsat Angels. Negative Space appears on their label Cold Transmission Music and features the mixing talents of Pete Burns (Kill Shelter) and mastering by Jason Corbett (Actors).

Following the cancellation of the band’s 2020 European Tour halfway through, due to the pandemic, Edwards and van Kruysdijk initially felt as if they were ‘in limbo’ -hence the album title. This, however, became an opportunity to reroute and inject a dose of musical and lyrical energy, optimism, and hope.

Negative Space is out on November 5th. You can pre-order it here.

The release of the new album will be supported by a European Tour with labelmates S Y Z Y G Y X (USA) and ULTRA SUNN (Belgium), which kicks off in February 2022.
