Drive straight into the night…
San Diego duo TWIN ION ENGINE returns with “Domecq,” a bewitching confession set to a twitching midnight pulse—driving straight into the night and never looking back. Thick, tactile bass and chiming, knife‑bright guitars nod to The Cure’s mid‑’80s The Head on the Door era, while the vocal—hazy and haunted—feels like it could be buried in shoegaze, exhumed here to float above a cool, clockwork rhythm. If you file your obsessions alongside Molchat Doma, Twin Tribes, Lebanon Hanover, or Vestron Vulture, this one parks right in your lane.
Shaped over a long burn that began in mid‑2024, “Domecq” emerged in fragments first—brief teasers slipped onto socials while the track was still under the knife. Lyrically, it fixes its high beams on jealousy and pain: the gut‑twist of watching a former lover get wooed by someone new. The song’s narrator funnels that fury into a stark ultimatum—closure or oblivion—and, by the final refrain, steers hard toward the latter.
The lyric video frames the song with a distinctly Lynchian glare—headlights serpentining across a black ribbon of highway, anxiety and allure flickering at the edges. It’s moody, melodic, and mercilessly catchy: a dark romance by dashboard light.

Founded by Eddie Lopez in 2020, TWIN ION ENGINE rose from the dim glow of San Diego’s underground—a solitary vision that evolved into a spectral two‑piece. The project blends the brooding soul of ’80s post‑punk and synthwave with the raw pulse of early‑’00s indie, threading somber vocals, hypnotic guitar hooks, thunderous bass lines, and kinetic drums into something timeless yet immediate—retro in essence, modern in execution.
“Domecq” is a late‑night ultimatum on four wheels—a heart racing the red lights for one last chance. And with today’s release, TWIN ION ENGINE are putting “Domecq” front and center of their campaign for the foreseeable future, and the single is slated to debut in their live set at upcoming dates.
