Dream Pop Duo The Know Debut EP2

And when this lockdowns done and over

I’ll still be standing there by your side

I only wanted to steal your breath

Amidst the city of angels, where dreams collide and stars align, we find The Know – a shoegaze dream pop duo bound by matrimony and a shared passion for music. This enchanting couple has unveiled their latest creation, EP2, an ethereal symphony composed of five spellbinding tracks that weave stories of love and heartache, the tender embrace of solitude, the enigma of life’s uncertainties, the beauty of melancholia, and the profound magic of human connection.

Jennifer Farmer’s ethereal vocals, reminiscent of Julee Cruise and Cranes, soar over the strange soundscapes buffering below, making use of samples, media recordings and expansive, shimmering synth elements. There is a psychedelic bend to these songs, but never anything too esoteric. Dan Knowles is an engineer and producer who also co-produced the Sharon Van Etten album We’ve Been Going About This All Wrong this year.

In the mesmerizing visual odyssey of “Used To Be,” The Know delves into the aftermath of nuptial enchantment – a time when the ethereal mist of fantasy dissolves, unmasking the stark reality that sustaining passion demands unyielding effort. We are, in our essence, complex beings of flesh and bone, not mere figments of our partner’s imagination. As we metamorphose, so does our expression of love and tenderness. At times, we require gentle nudges to recall the significance of the bond we share.

“ME” is similarly a breathtaking, scintillating panorama of sparkling glimmers and heartfelt lyrical composition. The verses interlace a contemporary narrative of seclusion imposed by quarantine; the ache of yearning to intertwine, yet uncertainty looms, casting shadows on what lies ahead.
Overall, giving EP2 a listen means embarking on a transcendent auditory adventure with The Know, as they beckon you into their world of hazy guitars and sun-drenched melodies that intertwine seamlessly with resplendent, cinematic soundscapes. Allow yourself to be captivated by the allure of their mesmerizing tunes and find solace within the intricate tapestry of their compelling sound.
The album, out now via all streaming services, is also available on limited edition pink vinyl here. They will release 143 signed and numbered copies of EP2.
