Berlin via Cape Town Dream Noise duo Medicine Boy return with their new single “A Mirror”, out today on Duchess Box Records.
The song is part Lou Reed, and part Jesus and Mary Chain, conjuring all the vain rock and roll demons Nick Cave exorcizes like a preacher from his live pulpit.
Not unlike Like when you face two mirrors towards each other cascading into infinity, the song is a portal back in time to the heyday of Alternative rock, as eluded to with such lyrical gems:
“The women all look like billboards And the men all look like bricks I wish I looked like Polly Jean Harvey in 1996”
Of the song, Andre Leo and Lucy Kruger explain:
“A Mirror is a song about the process of reflection – creation – destruction. An undeniable loop in the creative pursuit of songwriting. The live track was recorded in a church in Cape Town and the finishing touches done in a Berlin basement.”
“We wanted to get something out in between our last record (2018’s Lower – Fuzz Club Records) and the next one, which is currently in pre-production phase”

The track was recorded, mixed and co-produced by Simon Ratcliffe and mastered by Philipp Welsing. The video was shot, directed and edited by Willem van den Heever.
Medicine Boy are currently running an Indiegogo campaign to help fund their next album.
