Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan Sings on Touching New Post-Punk Influenced Track “Shock Collar”

Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan has lent his voice to the touching new collaborative track ‘Shock Collar’. The song is beautiful, harkening back to the glory days of 80s post-punk and early 90s alternative rock, with soaring vocals augmented by guitarist Rob Marshall.

Marshall, known for his work with Mark Lanegan is issuing the track on his debut album from his project Humanist, due out February 21st.

The record also includes contributions from Lanegan, Ride’s Mark Gardner, and The Membranes’ John Robb among others.

“It was a pleasure to be asked to be a part of Rob’s Humanist project,” Gahan said in a statement. “Mark Lanegan asked me, and I liked the idea immediately. It’s a beast! I went for the vocal, with the visual of driving fast on an empty highway. We shot the video over a couple of days in New York, and it all came together.”

Regarding the album’s post-punk influences as pointed out by NME, Gahan remarked:

“It’s funny you say that, because when I initially heard the backing track of what Rob had done first, my initial thought was that it felt like Echo & The Bunnymen,” said Gahan. “I liked a lot of that stuff in the ‘80s, and I think Rob is influenced by a lot of that full-on, wall-of-sound stuff.”
