Depeche Mode have announced a new concert film titled Depeche Mode: M, a feature-length cinematic experience directed by acclaimed Mexican filmmaker Fernando Frías (I’m No Longer Here, I Don’t Expect Anyone to Believe Me). Set for theatrical release in late 2025, the film captures the band’s three sold-out performances at Mexico City’s Foro Sol Stadium in September 2023, part of their extensive Memento Mori tour.
Rather than a conventional concert documentary, M is described as an “expressive and dynamic cinematic” journey that intertwines live footage with thematic explorations. Frías employs interstitials and archival material to delve into the profound connections between the band’s music and Mexican cultural reflections on death and mortality. This thematic resonance is particularly poignant, considering the tour’s title—Memento Mori, Latin for “remember that you must die”—and the passing of founding member Andy Fletcher in 2022.
The band added that the film will serve as “a window into the band’s timeless global influence and a powerful tribute to the unbreakable connection between music, tradition and the human spirit. ” Depeche Mode: M will arrive in theaters later this year.
Depeche Mode: M follows in the footsteps of the band’s previous cinematic endeavors, such as Spirits in the Forest (2019), directed by Anton Corbijn, which combined concert footage with personal stories of fans from around the world.
