From the not-so-sunless depths of Denver, Colorado, dark post-punk outfit Devoratus is making a rather dramatic return, poised to cast a stylishly gloomy pall over the indie darkwave scene with Lost, a new single from the band’s EP Amissus. With a flair for the melodramatic and a bilingual twist, this eerily atmospheric number hits hard.
The lyrics to Lost express a deep sense of loss and emptiness, conveying the struggle of feeling disconnected and longing for happiness. Sleepless nights and a sense of survival highlight the pain of missing someone, while acknowledging the need to move on for personal well-being. The narrator grapples with the paradox of missing the feeling of happiness more than the person themselves.
The melancholic essence of the track is mirrored by a somber video that portrays an evening out, which, far from being joyous, unfolds with a wildness tinged with despair. The narrative culminates in a poignant symbol of transience and loss: the stub of a discarded cigarette, the sole remnant of the night’s fleeting revelry.
