Death Bells Cherish Those They Love, Both Living and Gone, in Their Video for “Heaven Is Your Company”

No secret left to keep

From you or anyone I know

And when I turn In my sleep I swear I feel your presence

Los Angeles-based music project, Death Bells, unveils their thoughtful new single, “Heaven Is Your Company.” A visually-gripping music video accentuates the band’s wistful and sombre meditation, once again delivered in care of Dais Records, and featured on the band’s forthcoming new EP/ Mini-album Take My Spirit Now.

Here Death Bells masterfully negotiate a wild intensity with the sophistication of ambient melodies and harmonies. “Heaven Is Your Company” intertwines post-punk, alternative rock, and contemplative shoegaze, creating a unique audio palette that echoes the distinguished sound profiles of bands such as Interpol, The Walkmen, and My Bloody Valentine.

This fresh composition, conceived and recorded in the latter part of 2022 after exhaustive tours of North America and Europe, signals an excitingly chaotic new sound. Razor-edged guitars daringly traverse towering waves of feedback, intertwined with richly textured drum beats.

The lyrics enshroud a deep-seated sense of connectivity and unconditional affection – the refuge amidst the tempest. In the face of unbearable hardship, there exists a steadfast anchor offering safety and reassurance. This could be a parent, a sibling, a lover, or a friend. Their absence may manifest as an overwhelming chasm, yet the persistent vitality of their memory serves as a comforting fountain of solace. The track thus stands as a poignant homage to these guardian spirits.

On the video for “Heaven Is Your Company,” director Jeremy Stith states: “The only power that comes close to the power of love is the power of grief that comes along with it, riding its coattails. For me, Death Bells has always been the perfect blend of both, with all the despair but even more hope. The video is a reminder to keep your loved ones with you, whether they’re still here or long gone because after all, “…alone is alone, not alive.”

Take My Spirit Now,” the latest collection of songs that emerged from the secluded depths of Paradise Studios in Anaheim, pulses with an intensity reminiscent of the universal human narrative – a labyrinth of love, the shadowy tendrils of paranoia, and the elusive allure of fate. This compelling EP, a product of nocturnal jamming and soul-searching, bears the unmistakable imprint of the band’s perennial friend and creative partner, Morgan Wright.

Wright, a seasoned stalwart from the celebrated Aussie imprint, Burning Rose, utilized his significant experience in the electronic music sphere to carefully recalibrate the record’s systematic elements, injecting his digital prowess into the mix.

The band will also be embarking on two separate tours in the coming months. Find all the upcoming tour dates and EP information below.

Take My Spirit Now” is due out July 21 on Dais Records.
