Former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne made a memorable appearance at the Oscars on Sunday night, performing “This Is a Life” with Son Lux and Stephanie Hsu. However, it wasn’t just his musical talent that caught people’s attention – Byrne also wore Everything Everywhere All At Once hot dog fingers during the performance.
Byrne co-wrote “This Is a Life” with Son Lux’s Ryan Lott and Mitski, but only Hsu performed the song at the telecast. Hsu, who was nominated for her performance(s) as Joy Wang and Jobu Tupaki in the film, delivered a stunning rendition of the song alongside Byrne. Raccoonie also made an on-screen cameo during the routine as well.
Despite the captivating performance, “This Is a Life” did not win the Oscar for Best Original Song. The award instead went to “Naatu Naatu” by M.M. Keeravaani and Chandrabose from the film “RRR.”
Byrne is no stranger to unique and memorable performances…and outfits, having been a part of the influential band Talking Heads throughout the 70s and 80s. Since then, he has continued experimenting with different genres, musical styles, and unusual apparel, cementing his status as a true music icon.
