Darkwave legends Clan of Xymox are set to reissue their popular 3rd album Twist Of Shadows on a special edition 2LP vinyl via Pylon Records in the USA. The release will coincide with Clan Of Xymox’s second full US Tour since 1999, which kicks off with a Halloween appearance at Dracula’s Ball in Philadelphia. (See tour dates at the bottom of this article.)
1989’s Twist Of Shadows saw the trio of Ronny Moorings, Anka Wolbert, and Pieter Nooten depart label 4AD for Polygram’s Wing Records imprint. For this outing COX re-shortened their named to Xymox, for the first time since the release of their 1983 mini album Subsequent Pleasures.
Transitioning from the more somber album before it, 1986’s Medusa, Twist of Shadows was a more dance oriented record, reflected by the club hits “Obsession” and “Blind Hearts,” which along with the track “Imagination” contributed to the LP selling over 300,000 copies given the band their first mainstream success.
Additionally, The Arditti Quartet string section are featured on the tracks “Tonight” and “Clementina”, with arrangements by famed David Bowie producers Tony Visconti.
For the vinyl edition of the reissue, the two LPs are housed in a gatefold jacket complete with lyrics, and the artwork was designed by Vaughan Oliver of 4AD fame. The 2-CD remaster also contains 10 bonus tracks in all with some very rare 12″ mixes and B-sides which have never been available on CD.
Xymox’s Twist of Shadows will be available as a limited 2-LP vinyl set (500 translucent red & 500 black) on November 9th and as a double CD set on December 7th via Pylon Records.
