Dark Rocker Ashton Nyte Debuts Video for Melancholic Love Balled “Something Beautiful”

She believes in something beautiful

Something I’ve never been

With gravitas, pathos and wisdom, South African-born, U.S.-based singer-songwriter, producer, and composer Ashton Nyte croons his way through the heart-wrenching single “Something Beautiful.” The song comes off his eighth album, “Autumn’s Children,” due out August 2023. Something Beautiful is a tantalizing taste of what’s to come with its personal –  and profound – storytelling.

Something Beautiful” is a poignant exploration of a relationship from the perspective of someone who feels undeserving of happiness or love but is grateful nonetheless. They can’t understand what their beloved sees in them, revealing a fragile vulnerability that Nyte admits is both ‘terrifying and exhilarating.’  The lovely accompanying clip shows glimpses of a romance through moments of tender memories, juxtaposing the wide expanse and promise of desert skies with the claustrophobia of New York City. It’s a tale of rueful gratitude with an open-ended interpretation – perhaps the protagonist is living a lie; perhaps he’s enduring a block of his own potential. Either way, Nyte’s voice is full of quavering wonder at their unconditional love. We hear shades of Nick Cave, Jeff Buckley, and Beck, mixed with the classic power ballads of Guns and Roses and Poison in this touching narrative, beautifully illustrated by the track’s monochromatic video.

Cutting a razor-sharp silhouette across the alternative rock landscape, Ashton Nyte has created a staggering total of seven solo releases and eleven albums with The Awakening. His discography is as deep as it is audacious. Immersing himself in a myriad of eclectic collaborations, Nyte has also lent his haunting vocals and profound lyrical mastery to a host of respected projects, working alongside revered members of The Cure, Cheap Trick, Peter Murphy, The Mission, and Beauty In Chaos. His sonic imprint is as undeniable as it is vast.

Scoring the backdrop of popular television narratives like Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin and The Purge, Nyte’s compositions have reached audiences in the most unconventional, yet effective of ways. His theatrical flamboyance and chameleonic musical styles, effortlessly traversing genre boundaries, have deservedly earned him the sobriquet ‘Johannesburg’s Bowie.’

Boasting a sprawling creative output of over 300 original songs and widespread rotation on independent radio stations globally, Nyte’s musical impact is all-pervasive. His live performances are no less awe-inspiring – he has headlined major music festivals across the U.S.A., Europe, and his home turf, South Africa, performing for crowds that sometimes swell to an astounding 30,000 strong. Nyte’s touring ventures are just as remarkable – a highlight being his recent 36-date solo acoustic European tour alongside Wayne Hussey of The Mission fame in the fall of 2019. A testament to his relentless energy and commitment to his art, Nyte’s legacy is one that continues to burn bright in the post-punk cosmos.

Like its predecessor, “Waiting For A Voice” (2020), “Autumn’s Children” will be accompanied by a book of short stories, poetry, and musings, expanding on the themes of the album. Fans can now pre-order the book, vinyl, CD, and a selection of limited-edition items here.
