Dark Electronic Project Vexillary Debuts Disorienting Video for “My Vertigo”

Getting motion sickness while lying down, it’s like caught in a maze while hanging around

Vertigo is a sensation of motion or spinning that is often described as dizziness. Those afflicted with vertigo feel as though they are actually spinning or moving, or that the world is spinning around them. It is disorienting and all-consuming, a state that can be debilitating at times. Those familiar with Hitchcock’s 1958 film Vertigo will have a sense of its all-encompassing nature and obstacle toward normal function until the spell passes.

The first single from Vexillary’s highly anticipated album, Horror in Dub, takes the form of ‘My Vertigo.’ With this track, and the accompanying video, Vexillary presents us with a ‘euphoric technoid exploration’ that delves into the producer’s own encounters with these dizzy spells. Building up to climactic moments of intensity, My Vertigo captures the emotional rollercoaster and the eventual breakthrough. The captivating, twisting track mirrors vertigo’s swirling sensations and disorienting effects, while Baylee’s emotive vocals explicitly narrate the unsettling experience as it transforms into a cathartic sonic release.

Vexillary invites us to embrace disarray, find solace in the unexpected, and ultimately revel in the transformative power of music with this offering. It serves as a reminder that even in the midst of turbulence, there’s artistry to be found, and beauty to be celebrated.’

The video, created by indraudxa_visual, is a dizzying trip into the psyche. (For those sensitive to extreme motion sickness and flashing, it perhaps does too good of a job recreating the disorientation of vertigo, so please be advised.)

Vexillary is the brainchild of New York-based producer Reza Seirafi. His diverse work is seeded with a singular undercurrent of alluring gloom and shaped by his unique scientific approach to production. As a former chemist and perfumer, Reza was fascinated by the secret bonds between unrelated chemical ingredients that form well-balanced, otherworldly scents. Vexillary’s music follows the same process as he blends a vast array of musical parts to create his own brand of decadent techno, darkwave, and EBM. But Vexillary’s music is far from formulaic, and his records are proof of that.

With his EPs for Blaq Records, Reza took on classic industrial sounds as ingredients and transmuted them to leave a refreshing modern take in his trail. In 2021, after nearly a decade of releasing music on independent labels, Vexillary founded his own imprint, con:trace. Vexillary’s first LP on the label, Full Frontal Lunacy, was a riveting EBM concept album juxtaposing Vexillary’s own brush with madness with that of a society on the brink of downfall.

Vexillary’s coveted sophomore full-length, Crash and Yearn, followed soon after in the summer of 2022. The critically acclaimed album presented an evolution in sound with its bold production choices, emotive vocals, and storytelling. But the best is yet to come in 2023 in the form of Vexillary’s highly anticipated third fulllength, Horror in Dub. A compelling electronic outing that sees Vexillary adding a new layer of dubtinted bass music to his technoid darkwave palette to present a deep dive into the realm of horror and haunting beauty.

Looking into the future, we can expect Vexillary to carry on making music on his own terms to further cement his place as a force in underground music culture. And if Horror in Dub is any indication, that exploration will surely remain out of the ordinary.
