Dark EBM Project Poison the Vicar Debuts New Single “The Wolf”

They’ll invite you in, see your deepest sins.

Take your skin and tan your hide.

Wear you around as a disguise

Hailing from the United States and now firmly rooted in Shanghai’s bustling milieu, Poison the Vicar stands as a unique musical entity. They deftly blend the pulsating bass of E.B.M. with the raw power of industrial, while intertwining the nuanced elegance of darkwave. Driven by a distinct ethos, their compositions become a vessel for emotional release, reflecting personal hardships and a palpable dissatisfaction with the broader human disconnect. Through their poignant offerings, Poison the Vicar offers both comfort and acknowledgment to those drawn to its melancholic harmonies.

Now they unleash a new dark EBM single: “The Wolf,” marking the arrival of a new album called No More Silence.

The juxtaposition of a wolf and sheep alludes to predatory behavior and deception, emphasizing the dangers of self-deception and external threats. The recurring notion of hunger symbolizes insatiable desires and the inevitability of facing internal and external adversaries. The track paints a vivid picture of a society that seeks to assimilate and exploit while beckoning listeners to unveil their true selves beneath the façade.

“The Wolf encapsulates the struggle for identity in a world that relentlessly seeks control over individual actions, coercing conformity to a predefined mold,” says frontman Brandon Gordon. “The lyrics evoke a haunting reflection on the manipulation and subjugation faced by those who dare to stand against the current.”

In “The Wolf,” one discerns an artful meandering through the evocative electronica of VNV Nation and the unvarnished industrial sensibilities of :Wumpscut:. This harmonious fusion produces an intoxicating auditory cocktail of stomping beats and profound poetry.

Poison the Vicar’s inaugural LP, “Necrotic Pose,” has become a staple in goth clubs from Europe to the United States. Delving deeply into emotional terrains, the album masterfully blends E.B.M., industrial, and darkwave. A notable highlight is “Affront,” a collaboration with the respected E.B.M. figure, Leæther Strip. This partnership underscores Poison the Vicar’s distinct skill in navigating musical frontiers while preserving a genuine voice.

Poison the Vicar’s talents reach beyond original works, as they’ve adeptly reshaped tracks by peers in their atmospheric genre. Their collaborations with figures like Ryder Houston and Voix in the Dark highlight their dedication to fostering an artistic kinship in their niche. Poison the Vicar’s reinterpretation of “Vision” by Qual (the solo project by William Maybelline of Lebanon Hanover) demonstrates their adeptness at crafting unique music.
