Dark Alternative act Blue Oaks Unveil Spectral Live Single “Ghosts”

Sacramento’s Blue Oaks releases a new live single today, a gritty, psychedelic, spectral number called Ghosts.

Blue Oaks, founded by Brendan Stone in 2007, forges an eclectic atmosphere, ranging from 2013’s folk/blues debut single Hit By a Train from New York City Blues, to a moody full-length rock album Blue Oaks in 2017.

Now in its current incarnation with guitarist Stephen Hendry and drummer Roman Anderson, Blue Oaks is once again evolving, with darker undercurrents and lush texture heavily calling to mind Stone Roses, Sonic Youth, and Dandy Warhols in Ghosts.

The single is part of an EP, which also faithfully covers Joy Division’s Day of the Lords, via Hendry’s heavier grunge guitar approach. Stone’s voice is emotional and pleading in the performance, a fitting tribute indeed. The two tracks were recorded live in January 2019 to Tascam 388 reel-to-reel tape in front of a live audience at Stone Vintage Music in West Sacramento, CA.
