From the shadowy corners of California’s post-punk scene, FEARING has consistently delivered a blend of darkwave and post-punk that captures an old-school authenticity while sounding fresh and innovative. Their journey, which began in 2017, has seen them evolve and refine their sound, culminating in their upcoming sophomore LP, Destroyer, set for release on September 29th.
The new album Destroyer promises a fusion of the somber and the vibrant, a testament to the band’s ability to balance contrasting sonic elements. This evolution is evident in their latest darkwave-driven single, “Gravity,” a track that evokes the description of gothic dance music par excellence. Accompanied by a visually arresting music video, “Gravity” is a journey of contrasts, oscillating between shades of dark and light.
The music video for “Gravity” showcases the human form in all its vulnerability, distorted through the nostalgic scanlines of decaying VHS tapes, creating a mesmerizing dance as male as female forms contort along to the song’s buoyant desolation that drifts inescapably into an aural event horizon.

Diving into FEARING‘s discography is like traversing through a dark, atmospheric forest, each album a landmark of its own. Their debut EP, A Life Of None, introduced listeners to a raw, unfiltered sound that was both haunting and captivating. This was followed by the Black Sand EP in 2018, which saw the band experimenting with deeper, more resonant tones. Their full-length debut LP, Shadow, released in 2020, was a masterclass in post-punk and darkwave, blending melancholic melodies with powerful instrumentals.
Founded by James Rogers and Brian Vega, the band has evolved in membership and musical style, earning a dedicated fanbase and performing alongside notable artists like Portrayal of Guilt, Gatecreeper, Soft Kill, Choir Boy, Narrow Head, Death Bells, and more.
The addition of Joey Camello on guitar brought a fresh dynamism to the group. With his intricate guitar work and understanding of the darkwave genre, Joey has been instrumental in shaping the band’s evolving sound. With such a rich history and the talent of its members, Destroyer promises to be Fearing’s best album yet.
Following the album’s release, fans can catch FEARING live on their upcoming tour, with dates extending into the autumn.
Look for Destroyer to be available on September 29th via Profound Lore.
