A name like Silver Tears drips with contradiction—metallic yet liquid, weighty yet dissolving. The partnership of Berlin-based Luca Venezia (Curses) and Damian Shilman (Skelesys) revels in these tensions, their music stretching taut between propulsion and pause, ice and ignition. First surfacing in 2023 on Next Wave Acid Punx Deux (Chapter 2), the duo unveiled a single track brimming with deep basslines, sleek guitar strokes, and machine-stiff percussion, a familiar structure elevated by a sense of restless grandeur. Now, after two years of quiet construction, their first full-length arrives.
Remember, from their upcoming self-titled LP out in May via Avant! Records, lingers like breath on cold glass. It stands firm on the skeletal frame of coldwave, its sinew stretched tight with the slow, narcotic pull of shoegaze, the brooding weight of ’90s alt-rock. It hums with the ghosts of Clan of Xymox, Fields of the Nephilim, Dead Can Dance, She Past Away, Twin Tribes, carried through the corridors of underground nights. Their baritone voices coil around sharp, insistent arpeggios, while rhythms hypnotize, dragging the listener between two worlds: one of dark revelry, the other of quiet collapse.
The lyrics unravel in frantic loops: no rest, no escape, no answer. Sleepless urgency grips every verse, repetition hammering home the weight of memory, the weight of absence. Faces blur, voices fade, breath shortens. A song of lost moments and fractured time, drowning in static and longing.
LAST VEIL captures this restless energy in their video for Remember, filmed across the chilly winter landscapes of Germany and Italy. They move with purpose, striding through stark forests, light carving cold shadows through the branches. A silent sky watches. The trees and crows bear witness. Could this be another Blair Witch ending? There’s only one way to find out!
