Coldwave Artist Profligate Finds Comfort in “A Little Rain”

Coldwave artist Profligate has unveiled the video for “A Little Rain”, the second song premiered  from his forthcoming release Too Numb To Know, which is due out this autumn via Wharf Cat Records.

“A Little Rain” is a melody wrapped in soft tactile nostalgia and unique beauty augmented by both the shimmering vocals courtesy of Laura Callier of Gel Set, and the use of mostly acoustic instruments, such as the vibraphone and lead guitar courtesy of Jeremy Harris.

The Sonoverall sound design in the song is a transportive experience and contributes to the feeling of compassion and tenderness sombrely expressed in the lyrics.

Noah Anthony explains:

“I wrote “A Little Rain” for a friend who was going through a real low point in their life and felt very alone. It’s about being aware of self-destructive tendencies and managing them while learning that you’re really never alone, no matter how relentlessly punishing life can sometimes feel.”

Watch the video (with help from Carson Cox) below:

“A Litte Rain” is the second single from Profligate’s new album Too Numb to Know, a record that explores the themes of growth, reflection, and change.

The production of Too Numb to Know has traversed coast to coast, as Noah Anthony had initially recorded his first demos in Philadelphia before relocating to Los Angeles, a city he found both creatively challenging and emotionally depleting. After the theft of his computer—and with it the work he’d done on the new album in L.A.—Anthony listened to a friend, who suggested he move to Cleveland, Ohio. It was there that Anthony finally finished the Too Numb to Know, and added contributions from allies like Matchess, Lazy Magnet, Gel Set, and Missions, among others.

Too Numb to Know is the followup to 2018’s Somewhere Else, and is set for release on September 25th, 2020 via Wharf Cat Records.

You can Pre-order LP/CD/Special Edition LP here directly through the label.
