Chilean Gothic Rockers A Través Del Manto Unveil Their Macabre Video for “Xmal Funeral”

“Stay dead!”

A Través del Manto emerged in 2018 from the cold, rain-soaked landscapes of Puerto Montt, deep in the south of Chile. Victor “Torment” Villanueva and Pedro “Horrorhammer” Lagos began quietly crafting their vision, drawn to the sepulchral sounds of Gothic Rock’s ‘80s and ‘90s golden age. Their shadowed journey bore its first fruit in 2023 with the release of their debut single, Xmal Funeral.

Joined by “The Necronaut” on vocals and “Moorten” on bass, the band embraced the moniker “Death Goth,” channeling the sinister spirit of gothic legends like Corpus Delicti, Fields of the Nephilim, and Nosferatu. Their sound pays homage to the past while nodding to the present, with echoes of Héroes del Silencio and a sly salute to modern acts like Grave Pleasures and Twin Tribes. Steeped in foreboding atmospheres and sepulchral melodies

The ominous Xmal Funeral tolls like a death knell, its funeral bells echoing over post-punk drumming and vocals that roar from the depths of some infernal abyss. Imagine Sisters of Mercy and Type-O Negative fusing minds: the song beckons listeners into a world drenched in dark velvet, where every note and beat feels like a summons from the spectral beyond, a dirge wrapped in power and mystery.

Now A Través del Manto unfurl the accompanying video, directed by Felipe Guarda (Venium Films), which plunges us deeper into this macabre realm. The band moves like apparitions through the crypts of a cemetery, paying solemn tribute to the departed in a dark, ritualistic homage. Their cryptic procession unfolds like the opening of a musical sarcophagus, where frenetic rhythms pulse with necromantic energy.

This eerie spectacle blurs the line between life and death, drawing the living and undead into a hypnotic waltz. A spectral journey that revels in its macabre theatrics, it delivers a delightfully sinister glimpse into their chillingly enigmatic world.
