Chicago post-punk Duo, Bellhead, traverses post-punk, gothic, industrial, alternative and metal scenes. Their 2020 release Unicorn Bones opened many doors for the band, and now they announce the release of a new EP, called Dead Lights.
The pandemic did not stop Bellhead from working: it provided the time and space for them to delve into the creative process and rack up booking dates. Returning to their trusty production team of audio engineer Neil Strauch (Iron and Wine, Counting Crows, Owls, Joan of Arc, Walking Bicycles), mastering engineer Carl Saff (Acid Mothers Temple, Smoking Popes, Red Fang, Guided by Voices), and David Schock (Wtii Records), they moved forward with gusto.
Dead Lights features five new songs that expand the band’s signature sound. Their signature gritty low bass remains, but you can see growth in the group’s writing and recording styles. With nods to Type O Negative and Neil Young, the duo’s industrial roots dig deeper here, from the noir detective tale of Nothing as it Seems, to the frenetic journey into the madness of Mary Shelley’s gothic novel Frankenstein, to the slow burning Dead Letter, the EP explodes and simmers into a cathartic resolution.
Current tour dates for Bellhead include Chicago, Baltimore’s Stoneburner, Milwaukee, and Kenosha, Wisconsin, with more dates to be announced…
