The Chameleons, known for their ability to transform like the shapeshifters of post-punk’s past and present, seamlessly navigate between different decades, shedding their old identities and avoiding stagnation. With their 2024 album, *Where Are You?*, the Mancunian band has made a powerful return—raw, resonant, and revitalized. Longtime fans have applauded their comeback, while a new generation of listeners has embraced the band’s enduring emotional impact. Their revival is far from a nostalgic retreat; instead, it brims with renewed relevance, as their songs balance youthful longing with seasoned resilience.
This spring, Chameleons (Reg Smithies, Vox, Stephen Rice, Danny Ashberry, and Todd Demma) will embark on a tour across the eastern United States, co-headlining with Texas darkwave titans Twin Tribes, beginning on April 25th in Minneapolis.
Additionally, they will fill the gap left by Mission UK due to illness by joining the Psychedelic Furs on their summer tour. This expanded exposure allows Chameleons to share their captivating music with new audiences and create a collective sense of catharsis. The band is experiencing a career renaissance, rejuvenated by the synergy of their current lineup. As a result, their fan base continues to grow, as evidenced by the increasing size of their audiences.
“The Mission have become really good friends of ours and we hope and know that they’ll bounce back soon,” says vocalist/bassist Vox. “Although it has come our way via very sad circumstances, we’re thrilled at the prospect of stepping in and joining the legendary Psychedelic Furs for part of their upcoming North American Tour. I’m sure it’ll be a bill to remember. “
Despite their undeniable impact, Chameleons remain Manchester’s best-kept secret, a band revered yet too often overlooked. Now, decades since their last full-length studio release, they ready Arctic Moon, set to arrive in 2025. With time’s passage, their fire has not dimmed; if anything, it burns hotter, brighter, hungrier.
“It’s quite different from anything Chameleons has done before, and I know this will probably polarize the legacy audience, but we’re quite excited about how it’s developing,” says Vox. “I think the songwriting is much more mature in a lot of ways, which is to be expected, I suppose, given our age, but I, for one, really believe we’re taking the band forward, and I’m quite excited about it.”

Chameleons’ sound is a storm of contrasts: fierce yet fragile, mournful yet electric, where hypnotic riffs spiral skyward and lyrics strike deep with the weight of memory. They remain one of the most influential guitar bands to rise from the post-punk era, their fingerprints pressed into the bones of shoegaze, indie, and everything in between. They are woven into the DNA of Verve, Oasis, White Lies, The Slow Readers Club, Interpol, The Killers, Editors, and countless others who have borrowed from their soaring melancholy and restless urgency.
“We feel the band is better than ever and it’s nice to see so many people responding to it,” Vox concludes.
