Boy Harsher’s Augustus Muller Celebrates the Sensuality of JG Ballard’s Crash in the Video for “Perverse Technology”

In the midst of this blistering heat, Boy Harsher’s Augustus Muller is set to turn the temperature up even further with another new sizzling single from Cellulosed Bodies (Original Score). For this asphalt-melting audiovisual creation, Muller collaborates with Four Chambers’ Vex Ashley, an innovative figure in the realm of experimental cinema. Slated for a September debut via Boy Harsher’s own Nude Club Records, the album offers an alluring assortment of melodies inspired by this emerging era of unconventional adult film.

“Perverse Technology” immerses the listener in a dark and sensual atmosphere with skittering beats and droning synths. Muller’s expertise in crafting raw, industrial rhythms shines through as he infuses the tracks with club vibes, introducing hints of NuDisco and vocal snippets. Muller pivots away from heavy industrial tones, leaning more towards suspenseful synthesized melodies. This aligns perfectly with the film’s central theme, a dance between the organic and the mechanical. “Perverse Technology” entices listeners into a world of shadow and allure, characterized by its restless rhythms and hypnotic pulses; reflecting a forbidden world of temptation and dangerous seduction.

The video for “Perverse Technology” resonates with a melancholic restraint, invoking visions of hands gliding over leather, the juxtaposition of broken glass against fevered skin, and the soft allure of silhouetted kisses beneath gleaming headlights. Its roots spring forth from the solitude birthed by the pandemic, a period that morphed many into virtual addicts. Ashley delves into this obsession with digital closeness, painting it with a futuristic, almost otherworldly, hue.

At its core, Cellulosed Bodies honors David Cronenberg and his film adaptation of the novel Crash by both visually and sonically illustrating the tantalizing, ever-shifting dance of sensuality between the human form and machinery. With a backdrop that’s as eerie as it is understated, Muller’s subsequent collaboration with Four Chambers on this latest work showcases some of his most commendable scoring endeavours.

Cellulosed Bodies (Original Score) is out 9/1 via Nude Club Records. Pre-order here.
