SPEAK OF THE DEVIL
AND SHE WILL APPEAR
AFRAID OF THE RUNNER
WHO DRAWS HERSELF NEAR
Boy Harsher have returned with the second taste from the soundtrack to their forthcoming meta-horror film The Runner, this time with the shivering Giallo-tinged “Give Me a Reason”. The song carries forth a seductive melody that quakes with Jae Matthews’ sultry vocals that resonate over the most 80s sounding production from the band yet—courtesy of Augustus Muller’s use of icy synths with deliberate bass accents.
“With ‘’Give Me a Reason,” we wanted to write something that encapsulates that feeling of yearning” explains Jae Matthews, “the way we feel when we catch eyes from across the room. Our music can be flirty and crushable, and it’s fun to play with that.” –

The Runner is a meta-horror film and documentary exploring Boy Harsher’s recording process. Straying from a traditional album format, the film and its accompanying soundtrack allow the band to explore ideas beyond typical club-driven music, evolving from some of the sonic ideas previously ventured, for example, in the vampiric track “Fate” featured on their 2019 album Careful.
In the short film, The Runner, a bloodsoaked character played by Kristina Esfandiari of King Woman, and NGHTCRWLR, is seen running through the woods, representing the titular “Runner”. Esfandiari, no stranger to collaborating with Boy Harsher, had previously starred in Boy Harsher’s video for “Motion”.
