The Jesus and Mary Chain had a very memorable performance at EDP Vilar de Mouros festival in Portugal last night. The Scottish band performed along with their fellow countrymen Primal Scream whose frontman Bobby Gillepsie had been a member of The JAMC for the band’s classic 1985 debut LP Psychocandy.
Not wasting a good opportunity, Jim of the brothers Reid announced toward the end of the band’s 15-song set:
“We’re going to do a few songs from Psychocandy. I’m sure you know who he is, but we’ve asked our drummer from that album, Mr. Bobby G…”
And on cue Mr. Gillepsie emerged to perform his classic Phil Spector percussion via his trademark stand-up drum kit to Psychocandy’s iconic opening track Just Like Honey, along with the tracks The Living End and Never Understand.
