Magnificently masked in Mexico City’s mystical music milieu, gothwave group Blood Dance dramatically declares the debut of their darkly dazzling video dedicated to their signature sinister single, “Blood Dance.” Bravely brushing against bewildering backgrounds of the occult, killer chronicles, salacious S&M sagas, horrifying histories, vintage vampire vibes, and the 1980s, Blood Dance has been broadcasting a bevy of beguiling, boundary-breaking ballads since birthing back in 2018. Benefiting brilliantly from the production prowess of Bari-Bari (Mephisto Walz, Christian Death, Scarlet Remains), this quintet sizzles.
Natalya Speranzza nails the nocturnal notes on drums, while Castel conjures chilling chords on synths and guitar. Bree M brings the bass, Asanti articulates with agile guitars, synths, and soul-stirring vocals, and Alex Vouldarak vocalizes with vivid verve. Vying for a voice like venerable visions such as Angels of Liberty, Twin Tribes, Suspiria, Ash Code, Two Witches, and Agnes Circle, Blood Dance’s ominously jangly sound seeps into the soul, simultaneously sending shivers and summoning sympathy. The guitar solo at the end is nothing short of an inspired, thrilling climax, evoking the pain and ecstasy of a tempestuous romance.
In an elusive dreamscape, passionate prose emerges through the lyrics, edged with thorny caution. Treacherous temptations tighten, binding to the lingering twilight. Whispered wishes journey through past sorrows and hopes, hinting at deep-seated scars – yet yearning for solace.
In a dizzying dance with time, the music video — a reflection of the band’s very essence — plucks its heartbeats from the 1980s. Drawing shadows from the haunting silhouettes of anti-drug PSAs, it weaves a narrative that’s both nostalgic, and harrowing. Amidst the neon haze and electric pulse of the city, two spirited souls (played by Dove Maya and Paulina Roman) find themselves adrift. As the city’s underbelly unfolds, the murmurs of danger grow louder. It’s not just the city’s secrets they must dodge, but a faceless specter of a man, whose intentions remain enigmatically sinister. On this fateful Friday, will they find their escape… or become another whispered story of the night?
