To celebrate their first UK/Germany/France tour, Berlin’s ERRORR have released their new single “Heroine (Got to let go)” This is the second track to be revealed from their upcoming album Self Destruct, due out in October via Anomic Records. This follows “Servant”, out last September.
The song’s screaming fuzz guitars, droning baseline and powerful drumming is the kind of track that recreates the drugged sluggishness of an altered state, its repetitive nature putting the listener into near-trance. There are elements of Pixies, My Bloody Valentine, and early Dandy Warhols in the sound.
“The song is about pushing things to an extreme,” explains frontman Leonard Kaage. “It can be a beautiful ecstatic feeling where you need to let yourself go, but it can also be a rather dark place. ‘Got to let go’ is as much about losing yourself as it is about finding yourself and moving on. I have lately seen a lot of people around me getting lost in different kinds of substance abuse or relationships – and they are not able to come back the same. You have to know when to let go and when to stop.”
The video, directed by Olga Karatzioti-B, was filmed on location at 8MM Bar in Berlin.
“When I first heard the song I immediately had to think about all the smoky nights we have spent in that place,” says Olga. “Mostly I wanted to recreate the vibe of coming into a bar from a late night out and all the people you meet, while sometimes feeling that you belong there and sometimes you don’t. So we just invited a few of our friends to come and do what they always do…I wanted to highlight the fact that we are not only talking about substance abuse but about someone’s ‘heroine’ – a female hero.”
The monochromatic film features Errorr bandleader Leonard Kaage, Craig Dyer (The Underground Youth), Eddie Argos (Art Brut), Emerson Snowe, Fritz Ali Hansen, Nico Pili (SNIFF). Colin Dayer (Hello Pity), Camille Haimet (Plaisir) and Jillian Elora Stein. They mingle and pass around cigarettes in the smoky darkness.

The track, as well as the full album, was recorded in Leonard’s own basement studio. It was mixed there as well as in Gothenburg’s Svenska Grammofonstudion. The master was done by Frederic Kevorkian (The White Stripes, Iggy Pop). The Swedish multi-instrumentalist is also the producer and guitar player of The Underground Youth and has worked with numerous other bands, including The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Holy Motors, Kristof Hahn (SWANS), Tracy Bryant, Tess Parks, The Blue Angel Lounge, and many more.
