Berlin Post-Punk Trio Lobsterbomb Says No to Creeps in Their Party Crashing Video for “What About Never”

Are you not ashamed to be

A creep in the 21st Century?

Lobsterbomb, an amalgamation of the distinct musical talents of Nico Rosch, Vik Chi, and Crayon Jones, was birthed amidst the global pandemic in 2020. Having all migrated to Berlin, united by a common desire for escapism and a shared sense of wanderlust, the trio forged their unique musical bond during a time of universal uncertainty.

Their razor-sharp new single, “What About Never,” masterfully captures the collective fatigue and frustration experienced by multitudes who’ve reached their tipping point with the prevailing status quo. “What About Never” reiterates, with the fury of The Damned and early Siouxsie, the tired old chestnut that Bush Tetras’ classic “Too Many Creeps” went after four decades ago: the creeps never went away, they just found a different kind of power. “What About Never” doesn’t just articulate discontent—it issues a powerful call for change. It prompts its listeners to remember their worth, encouraging unity and fostering the bravery necessary to challenge the systemic inequities that continue to linger within our societal structures.

You’d think the creeps would be tired by now, but they’re out in full force.

What About Never is a defiant call to action, fuelled by the burning anger that comes from years of suffering under a patriarchal hellscape. It serves as a rallying cry to dismantle the oppressive system that perpetuates misogyny and misuse of power. says Nico.

The raucous video, directed, produced and edited by Vivian Hoyer, is a hilariously chaotic visual treat that lampoons and skewers a very serious matter. Sometimes you need to amplify the absurdity in order to dismantle it, and Hoyer does this with glee.

Lobsterbomb’s highly anticipated debut record, “Look Out,” is set to grace the world on July 21st, 2023 via Duchess Box Records, with a special limited edition red vinyl pressing available for pre-order here.

Drawing inspiration from their environment, the band meticulously crafted this auditory masterpiece within their Berlin-based Neukölln rehearsal space over an arduous yet rewarding twelve-month period.

Lobsterbomb’s impassioned vocal performance and reflective melodic hooks, echoing elements of iconic bands like Berlin, X, the Bangles, and Missing Persons, weave a fascinating lyrical tapestry. Balancing a palpable sense of angst and dissatisfaction with a buoyant yearning, their music encapsulates the very zeitgeist of our times. However, beneath the surface-level turmoil lies a more profound message: an encouragement to seize the opportunity for meaningful change and progression, regardless of the potential for disappointment. The heart of Look Out beats with the rhythm of resilient hope amid apparent futility—a testament to the post-punk ethos of rebellion and transformation.

“There is a fight between the post-punky coldness of the music and the emotion in Nico’s voice which helps to reflect the lyrics,” muses Crayon Jones, the British member of the band. “There isn’t really a resolution; neither side wins and the happy-ever-after never arrives.”

“It’s a beautifully rough rollercoaster ride through our subconscious minds, adds Nico.

“With so much effort and emotion going into this album, it feels like giving birth to a big square baby, says Vik.
