Some artists evoke a transcendent feeling with their music that you could build a David Lynch film around. Such is certainly the case with Berlin’s dark chanteuse Laura Carbone.
Carbone captivated audiences last year with her opening slot touring with The Jesus and Mary Chain, which coincided with the release of her fantastic single “Lullaby”, the first single off her forthcoming second album Empty Sea.
Now, ahead of the album’s release on June 1st through Duchess Box Records, Laura Carbone returns in blissful reverie with the records latest single “Tangerine Tree”.
On the song’s meaning, Laura Carbone explains:
“To me this song is like a vivid dream inviting you to dive in and float in it for a while. It gives the comfort of a familiar feelings that keep on visiting you once in a while in sleep. It’s a temporary feeling – you’ll let yourself fall for a moment but you know it’s just a dream – it’ll be over in a bit and that’s fine”
Carbone then goes on to explain how the album’s title Empty Sea is inspired by “The True Bride”, a fairy tale culled from the works of the Brothers Grimm in which a kidnapped princess must empty a lake with a spoon full of holes.
“There were moments when i really doubted myself as i had some blocks, retreating to LA to write really gave me the courage to get the album together, the experience of overcoming doubt made me think about the girl with the spoon”.
The Empty Sea is out June 1st.
