Berlin Duo Her Absence Fill the World Debut Haunting 60s Style Goth New Single “Following Ghosts”

Her Absence Fill The World, the Berlin-based Neue Türkische Welle band returns “Following Ghosts,” the second single from their forthcoming album, Unknown Territories. This release comes quickly after the somber yet idyllic first single, “Light Blue Train,” with its atmospheric synths, fuzzy dirge-like guitars, and haunting vocals.

The band’s unique blend of sounds draws from a wide array of influences—indie rock, synthwave, psychedelia, and electronica, along with their spin on gospel and blues. “Following Ghosts” reflects the diverse backgrounds of the band members and the vibrant cultural streams of Berlin, their current home.

The enchanting melodies of “Following Ghosts” evoke a spacious, atmospheric reverie with hints of ’60s psychedelic and prog rock. The song exudes a throwback gothic feel via Julie Driscoll and Nico and The Shangri-Las and dances forward with a waltz-like rhythm. Featuring atmospheric guitar arpeggios and bluesy riffs fit for a David Lynch film, “Following Ghosts” is propelled by a military-style drum procession, adding an extra layer of urgency. Wistful vocals and captivating synth leads further contribute to the hypnotic ambiance.

This latest track from Her Absence Fills the World wraps listeners in its spell and is perfect for a leisurely journey or drifting into slumber, offering a haunting preview of what’s to come in Unknown Territories.

The impact of Her Absence Fill The World’s performance at the 30th anniversary of Wave Gotik Treffen—the world’s largest Goth festival—still reverberates, solidifying their status as rising stars in the international dark-wave scene. Their burgeoning potential and exceptional talent are carving out a distinct niche in this growingly popular and ever-evolving genre.

Based in Berlin and operating under their self-run DIY label, U-Boddin Records, the band’s music is a rich tapestry of diverse cultural influences. They’ve previously released music on various independent dark scene labels, including Detriti Records, Cold Transmission, and Oraculo Records, establishing a solid presence within the community.

Their headlining act at the Art Carnival Festival in Gröningen (NL) last summer, along with performances at renowned Berlin venues like Christa Kupfer and Kiezfest Neukölln, has amplified their growing reputation. As resident artists and founders of the cross-border music project, NCOUNTERS Berlin, they continue to push the boundaries of their craft, fostering collaboration and innovation.

Her Absence Fill The World’s vinyl debut“Dead Hands,” on Oraculo Records, and a successful mini-tour across Germany, hitting cities like Leipzig, Frankfurt, and Berlin, have left an indelible mark. Their unwavering dedication to artistic creativity, songwriting, and their unique sound, which encompasses a wide range of influences beyond the traditional boundaries of post-punk, gothic rock, and darkwave, is undeniable. Looking ahead, their forthcoming album, “Unknown Territories,” promises even more groundbreaking contributions, signaling a compelling future for this dynamic band.
