Berlin Art Punk Outfit Public Display of Affection Wander Serpentine Through the City in Their Video for “Spring”

Berlin art-punk collective Public Display of Affection wander serpentine through the Burroughs of Berlin in their sordid new video for “Spring”, a track culled from their forthcoming debut EP “P.D.O.A.”, which is set for release on the 5th November.

The song is slow and slinky, feeling like a hybrid of jazz and post-punk while defying genres. Here the languid bassline guides a voyeuristic narrative that is driven by Madeleine Rose’s chirping vocal poetry, which lies somewhere between Dale Bozzio and Lene Lovich.

From bathhouses, phonebooths, nightclubs, and more, both the song and video for “Spring” perfectly encapsulate the strange and surreal settings and characters found in Germany’s Capital city. All it takes is to listen to the devil on the shoulder who beckons you to embrace all the weirdness and unfettered creativity that pulsed through the dark currents of West Berlin nightlife during the 80s.

Watch the video for “Spring”, directed and edited by Lewis Lloyd, below:
