Belgian Darkwave Duo Skemer Returns with Video for Sensual Dancefloor Banger “Overgave”

Kijken niet op van een lelijk gebaar

Kan je me horen?

Vind ik de juiste klank?

After what feels like an extended slumber, the exquisite Belgian twosome Skemer, comprised of famous model Kim Peers and Mathieu Vandekerckhove (Amenra), have graced us once again with another full-length album. It’s been four long years since they serenaded us with their last release Benevolence. But Skemer has been anything but idle, letting every facet of their characters blossom before a glorious combustion. Now they unleash a new beast: Overgave, a techno-fueled gothic dance floor banger straight out of a club dungeon.

Overgave drips with an unease that’s hard to shake off, dancing around feelings of ennui and jitters as if attending a never-ending soirée of angst. The song pulses relentlessly with the drumming of unresolved troubles, a palpable sense of being cornered, yearning for a connection – yet attempting to escape relentless pursuit. The desperate Dutch pleas for understanding are like trying to catch a cab in the rain. Cheers to their turmoil!

In the cinematic display for Overgave, we’re treated to a veritable feast of dance. There’s Mustav Ahmeti, Gabrielle ‘Duchesse’ Divine, Chloé Meys, Kim Peers, Ella Schöning, and the evocative Yana Van Ginneken, all swaying, writhing, and letting the rhythm take them. Every sultry beat and they’re there, moving with an allure that’s positively contagious.

Overgave was produced, recorded and mixed by Tim De Gieter at Much Luv studio and mastered by Ruud Lekx.

Skemer’s chilly forays into minimalism are an intriguing dance of the raw and the risqué. Their melodies – a tangle of romance and shadow – reflect as much in their ensemble as in their electrically-charged stage soirées. Here, one finds love stories draped in the brooding beats of techno.

Their latest record, “Toasts & Sentiments,” out on the 17th of November through Avant! Records, is the epitome of their musical chiaroscuro. It consists of eleven tracks, each unveiling Skemer’s multifaceted soul, ultimately leaving listeners ensnared in an inky embrace. A touch of their mother tongue, Dutch, merely thickens the plot, lending an almost arcane flair to their atmosphere.
