Mirror tears
Shattered forever by fears
In the quiet hours, when shadows lengthen and past sins haunt restless minds, fear quietly gnaws at the soul, deepening to shame; a torment that corrodes from within. Gradually, such shame twists inward, becoming a harsh self-hatred, a relentless burden too heavy to bear. Yet, trapped by one’s memories, it proves impossible to escape, for the self turns cruel judge and prisoner both, endlessly sentencing itself to loneliness in a prison built from regret.
Dusken Harmony, the project of Belarusian multi-instrumentalist Anton Yeroma, delivers a penetrating exploration of anguish and remorse on Mirror Tears, from his evocatively titled album Shrouded In Mystery. Situated within the moody aesthetic of Minsk (home to darkwave luminaries Molchat Doma) Yeroma delicately blends post-punk austerity and new wave sensibilities, accentuated by gothic romance and emotional sincerity. His music inhabits an atmosphere that feels dense with emotional tension…yet fluidly cinematic. Fans of Cold Cave, Clan of Xymox, and The Agnes Circle will recognize familiar echoes here, yet Yeroma confidently asserts a fresh voice in Eastern Europe’s musical twilight.
Mirror Tears unfolds as a poetic meditation on profound regret and emotional burden. Yeroma’s understated, ceremonial vocals rise and retreat through swirling synth textures, while the rhythm section delivers insistent basslines and beats, evoking a march toward a bleak yet unavoidable confrontation with one’s past. The song’s deceptively simple lyrics speak candidly about enduring fears and pervasive shame, laying bare the psychological toll of self-blame. It portrays a deeply personal struggle, capturing the listener with subtle intensity rather than overt dramatics.
The video further intensifies this mood with vaporous imagery, where dark grey mists intertwine with anxious strobes and fractured reflections. Faces become obscured, hands shielding eyes from truths too harsh to confront directly. A handheld looking glass, emblematic of buried guilt, reflects internalized pain that refuses easy resolution. Through carefully composed symbolism, Dusken Harmony illustrates the tension between facing one’s own faults and recoiling from them in shame.
