In the primordial realms of human myth and folklore, dwell the tormentors of restless sleep, the Incubus and Succubus—entities whispered about through generations, embodying the unsettling crossroads of desire, torment, and subconscious fear. Their presence echoes through history, perhaps most vividly captured in Henry Fuseli’s evocative 1781 painting, “The Nightmare,” where a woman lies helpless beneath the oppressive weight of an inhuman visitor.
It is with this nightmarish thought that Lana Del Rabies returns with a chilling new visual invocation in the premiere of the music video for “Incubus + Succubus,” the second unsettling chapter from her hauntingly potent EP, Le Temps Viendra. Known for her visceral fusion of industrial dread, gothic noise, and experimental metal ferocity, Lana Del Rabies—the fiercely uncompromising alter ego of Los Angeles artist Sam An—continues to carve deeper into the psychic undercurrents of historical and personal anguish.
The spectral track itself is a sparse yet enveloping post-industrial incantation infused with the shadowy beats and mechanical pulses reminiscent of trip-hop’s darker fringes. It’s music that feels conjured rather than composed, threaded through with seduction and torment in equal measure.
In the accompanying video—equal parts Coil-eque Sleazy grotesquery and the aquatic terror from Ringu—Sam An embodies her Lana Del Rabies persona in nightmarish intensity. Bathed in eerie monochromatic gloom, she appears bloody and gasping, a chain ominously emerging from her mouth, submerged in murky waters that feel like an otherworldly threshold between existence and void. The disturbing imagery underscores the track’s themes of spectral seduction, existential dread, and disembodied longing.

Le Temps Viendra, whose title evokes the prophetic musings of the ill-fated Anne Boleyn, explores themes of desire, betrayal, exile, and transcendence. Across its five tracks, Lana Del Rabies fuses ghostly elegance with sonic brutality, creating a soundscape haunted by personal and historical spectres.
