Bathe in the Embers of Reduction Plan’s Video for “Meridian”

NYC-based post-punk band Reduction Plan have been a favorite of ours for a few years now, through a combination of their strong and engaging live gigs and their lush, gloomy studio recordings. Their latest record (Ae) Maeth dropped last September and has been gathering momentum over the last few months. With that in mind, we’re honored to premiere the latest video from the band for “Meridian.” Watch below:

The video, directed by frontman Daniel Manning and filmed by Joseph Rosen, Brian Weiss, and Michael Dorsey, was filmed at Purgatory in Brooklyn. Combining the energy of a live Reduction Plan performance with flames and a slew of digital decay and distress gives the video an almost ethereal, yet lo-fi quality that pairs beautifully with the song’s syrupy textures. The track itself is reminiscent of the Red Lorry Yellow Lorry’s pummeling edge, a mix of distorted guitars, throbbing bass, and a driving drum track alongside Manning’s vocals.

Manning has shared a few words about the track and video:
‘Meridian’ is a song about the tangibility of chaos – about confronting the unforgiving nature of our world that lingers just below the surface of our everyday lives, looming in the shadows. It’s inspired by Cormac McCarthy’s ‘Blood Meridian’, an overwhelmingly brutal novel about the most savage of human impulses. The video utilizes archival footage of raging fires to convey raw, natural, destructive energy. The fires creep into the shots, permeating each one until fully engulfing the video in digitally-rendered destruction.
