Bask in the Cacophony of Entertainment’s Blistering New Single “Voyeur”

‘Tis the season for all things bleak, if that’s your sort of thing. With that in mind, we’re honored to premiere the latest video from Athens, Georgia’s very own Entertainment, a band near and dear to our hearts.

Plucked from their recent Horror Pt. 1 EP, “Voyeur” is a powerfully scathing track, and of the darkest things we’ve heard from the band to date. Eerie synth lines, churning bass, incisive guitars, and a heady mix of Bari Donovan’s hard-hitting organic and electronic percussion make up the majority of the track’s claustrophobic sound, aided and abetted by Trey Ehart’s snarling vocals, which this time around are soaked in unsettling phase effects. As always, the band has never been afraid to embrace the more visceral side of the post-punk spectrum, channeling bands like Virgin Prunes, Pornography-era Cure, Kommunity FK, and early Modern English, the latter who has taken quite a shine to the band over the years.

The video, directed by John Breedlove (Hip To Death), is a spiritual successor to last year’s equally expressive “Maggot Church,” featuring gauzy, angled performances over the trio with lightning flashes and forest scenes transposed on top. With quick cuts between performances and an eerie gothic figure peeking through a Venetian blind, the visuals are sparse, but strong enough to enhance the track’s razor sharp edges. The imagery ties into the EP’s romanticism with VHS “Video Nasties” and other cult horror films from the 80s, and kicks off with a delicious quote from Clive Barker, who just celebrated his 69th birthday this past week.

Horror Pt. 1 was released on September 28th and features three additional tracks of caustic post-punk, including the aforementioned “Maggot Church.” Check below for the full track listing, artwork, and download links.
