Australian Post-Punk Outfit Second Idol Debuts Video for “Dear X”

Australia’s Second Idol returns with an intense new single, “Dear X.” The Sydney alt-rock quartet, comprised of Kate Olivia, Maxine Gillon, Theia Joyeaux, and Afeef Iqbal, put earnest lyric writing and skilled instrumentation at centre stage to elevate the song to soaring heights.

“Dear X” meshes vigour with kinetic force, via their trademark ominous guitars and resolute drums, as Olivia’s anthemic vocals emulate alt-rock sirens Siouxsie Sioux, Aimee Mann, and PJ Harvey. The nostalgic air meshes sluggish drums with thunderous, insistent percussion. The effect is eerie, acidic, and emotionally charged.

The moody, monochromatic performance video was directed by Lucy Howroyd and filmed at Good Loco, Marrickville on the unceded land of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation. It delves into the surreal as the song progresses, meshing the band members into one imposing figure.

Dear X was produced, mixed, and mastered by Nick Franklin.
