Alex Okami Debuts Eerie New Darkwave Single “Haunted by You”

Under the moon
Among the ash
That’s where you’ll meet me
Telling ghost stories of the past

In the great dance of life, relationships come and go, each leaving an indelible mark upon our souls. Heartbreak is a powerful teacher, illustrating the truth that attachment often leads to suffering. Yet, within this suffering lies the seed of transformation, an opportunity to grow and understand the nature of love itself.

The gentle reminder of life’s fleeting nature teaches us to cherish the present moment, for it is all we truly have. The longing for a past love to return and haunt us is a natural yearning, a desire to relive the moments that brought us joy and fulfillment. This longing, however, can be a gateway to deeper understanding. By embracing these feelings, we can learn to let go, finding peace in the realization that love, in its purest form, transcends time and space. It remains with us, not as a ghost of what once was, but as an eternal presence that shapes who we are and how we navigate the world.

Indie singer-songwriter Alex Okami’s eerie new darkwave single, Haunted By You, is steeped in melancholic melody, staccato guitar, and haunting vocal undertones. Okami pours his personal struggles and emotions into every note, taking inspiration from Depeche Mode, AFI, and Nine Inch Nails, while incorporating the darker elements of post-punk artists such as The Cure, Bauhaus, and Joy Division.

“Haunted by You” is a song that immerses listeners in a ghastly exploration of themes like liberation, obsession, and the delicate balance between life and death. The song opens with vivid imagery of a soul awaiting release beside the gallows, setting a tone of restless anticipation. It unfolds with a ceremonial sense of liberation, where the subject rejects divine and earthly dominion, underscoring a deeply personal journey. The narrative introduces a spectral lover whose presence transcends the physical realm, encapsulating a poignant longing and inescapable pull.

As the song progresses, it depicts a landscape marked by the remnants of a decaying beast and the rise of vengeance, suggesting a cycle of destruction and rebirth. The lyrics invite listeners to embrace the nocturnal, meeting in desolate yet strangely comforting places to recount tales of the past. The song’s conclusion, under a blood-red sky, emphasizes confronting one’s shadows and finding beauty in melancholy. “Haunted by You” stands as a testament to the power of music to evoke, challenge, and ultimately transform, resonating deeply with themes of existential dread and haunting memories.

Alex Okami hit the scene hard with his debut EP, Under the Same Moon, in 2020, seamlessly blending electronic elements with his signature sound.  Okami’s upcoming debut full-length album promises a compelling fusion of raw emotion and personal musical innovation.
